What we keep in your browser
Two things the site cannot work without, one thing you decide, and nothing else. No advertising, no profiling, nothing sold to anyone.
This site sets no cookies
Not one. A cookie is a piece of text your browser attaches to every request it makes to a server, whether or not that request needs it. Nothing here does that. What the site keeps is two entries in your browser's local storage, which stay on your device and are read only by the page you are looking at.
We call this page "Cookies" because that is what people look for. The rules are the same either way: European law covers anything stored on or read from your device, and the distinction that matters is not the technology but whether you can be asked to consent to it.
What is stored, exactly

European law does not ask for consent for either of these: one keeps you signed in to a service you asked for, the other exists only to remember what you already answered. Asking anyway would be theatre, and a question you cannot really answer is worse than no question.
The one thing that is optional
Counting visits: how many people opened a case, which pages get read. It is a headcount, not a file on you — no advertising identifier, no cross-site tracking, no profile.
It is off unless you turn it on, and turning it down is one click in the same place, at the same size, as turning it on. If you never answer, it stays off forever; we do not treat silence as a yes, and we do not ask again on the next page to wear you down.
Right now the measurement is not even configured, so today the honest answer is that nothing optional exists to load. The switch is here so that the day it does exist, it cannot load without you.
Other people's servers
None. The typefaces used to come from Google Fonts, which meant your browser had to ask Google for them and Google saw your IP address on the way. They now ship with the site itself, from this domain. There is no third party left on these pages — no fonts, no analytics network, no embedded video, no social buttons, no advertising.
Signing in and reading a case talk to our database provider, and every page is served through our hosting provider. Both are named, with what they hold and where, on the privacy page.
How to clear it
Signing out removes your session. "Start over" above removes your answer and asks again. Clearing site data in your browser removes everything on this page. Nothing breaks: you answer the question again and sign in again.
